The Głogów Aufrichtigs |
|
The following family of Aufrichtigs are descended from
Hayyim
[Chaim/Hyman] HaLevi Aufrichtig, whose son
Tuvia
Yaankel Aufrichtig, father of three sons and two daughters, emigrated from the
Austrian/Polish town of Głogów to the United States in 1890. I am indebted to
family members Norman Aufrichtig,
Michael
Aufrichtig, Joe Rich,
Dick Rich,
Ken Rich,
Miriam
& Howard Shatz and
Geraldine,
Seth & Rori Kramer
for the information and
assistance they have so freely given. Special thanks goes to
Avi Engel for
making available copies of an autobiography by
Yaankel
[Jack] Aufrichtig and his own personal
family Connection, links to which are provided at the bottom of this page,
to Abe Wolf for the taking and supplying of
photographs of present day
Głogów, and to family historian,
David Aubrey, whose painstaking research has
provided much of the material included.
The Głogów Aufrichtigs have a wonderful tradition of being assigned and retaining Hebrew names, subsequently Anglicised on arrival in the USA. Their as yet earliest recorded ancestor Tuvia Yaankel Aufrichtig lent his name to Norman Aufrichtig's father, Theodore Jakob Aufrichtig, while Norman himself was given his grandfather's Hebrew name of Naftali, the English equivalent of which he gave to his younger son Nathan Aufrichtig.
