The Brzeżany Aufrichtigs |
|
The following family of Aufrichtigs are descended from Zvi Hersch [Hersz/Zvi] Aufrichtig who was born in the Galician town of Brzeżany (now Berezhany) in 1842. His wife Beile Pflug had been born in neighbouring Narajow, the two towns sufficiently close enough to Gliniany and Rohatyn to suggest potential links with the larger Dolniany-Rohatyn group of Aufrichtigs.
The couple are known to have had seven children, Isak Mayer Aufrichtig, Baruch Aufrichtig, Regina [Rivke] Aufrichtig, Udel Aufrichtig, Hudie Aufrichtig, Samuel Aufrichtig. Rebeka Aufrichtig and Simon Aufrichtig. Of these, the first two were born in Brzeżany and the remainder in Gliniany. Baruch is the only one of their children for whom there is documented evidence of descendants.
He and his wife Regina [Rivke] Seidenwerg had four children - Bernard [Dov] Aufrichtig, Toni [Jona] Aufrichtig, Izydor Aufrichtig and Elza [Else] Aufrichtig - of which all but Bernard are known to have married and to have children of their own. Sadly, Baruch and Regina were deported to Belzec and murdered in September 1942.
Toni Aufrichtig and her husband Abraham Zvi Kantorowicz [Kejnan] are known to have had a son, Hanoch Kejnan, and to have emigrated to Israel. They lived in Tel Aviv where Abraham died in 1985 and Toni in 1994.
Izydor and his wife Amalia ~~~ had a son, Richard Aufrichtig, who was born in Warsaw in 1967. Later, the family moved to the Valby district of Copenhagen, Denmark, where Izydor is believed to have died in the Nineties. Richard had emigrated to the U.S. where he graduated in Biomedical Engineering in Cleveland, Ohio. Now a respected biomedical imaging expert and inventor, he married Allyson Claudia Rosen. Following her husband's death, Amalia joined her son and daughter-in-law in Mountain View, California.
Elza [Else] Aufrichtig married Jan [Aaron] Erlich and had two sons, Andre Erlich and Marc Erlich, each of whom was born in Poland. Andre married and had two sons, Yan-David Alexander Erlich, born 1978 in Neuilly, France and Jeremy Benjamin Bernard Erlich, born 1981, also in Neuilly. Marc had been born in Wroclaw, once the home town of two Aufrichtig groups when it was formerly known as Breslau, Silesia. This was also the place of birth for his own son, Paul Martin Erlich, in 1980. With Paul's mother, Krystyna, they now live in France.
There is a strong likelihood that this family is connected to the Brzeżany-Stuttgart Aufrichtigs, whose earliest recorded ancestor, Shalom Aufrichtig, would have been a contemporary of Zvi Hersch Aufrichtig.
