Aufrichtigs
Avotaynu, Inc. is the world's leading publisher of
information and products on Jewish genealogy and Jewish family history. Its
principals, Gary Mokotoff and Sallyann Amdur Sack, have been leaders or
organized Jewish genealogy since its inception 20 years ago. As such, they have
close personal relationships with the heads of archives and repositories of
Jewish records throughout the world, including Yad Vashem, the U.S. Holocaust
Memorial Museum, the Jewish Agency's Search Bureau for Missing Relatives, the
Central Archives for the History of the Jewish People, the YIVO Institute for
Jewish Research, the Leo Baeck Institute, and others.
The journal AVOTAYNU, the International Review of Jewish Genealogy, is the
largest circulation publication devoted entirely to Jewish genealogy. Its
international Board of Contributing Editors supplies up-to-date information
about the existence and availability of Jewish family records worldwide.
In 1997, Avotaynu acquired lists of names of individuals who held unclaimed,
Holocaust-era Swiss bank account, as well as names of Jews living in Vienna in
1938 whom the Nazis forced to complete detailed property declarations. To help
find the legitimate heirs to these assets, a project to computerize the names
was organized, with pro bono volunteer help from the Jewish genealogical
community.
